In September of 2009 the German Ministry of Transport announced a Memorandum of
Understanding with several leading auto manufacturers and energy industry
partners--a plan to facilitate deployment of a nationwide hydrogen supply
infrastructure and vehicle rollout for Germany. This builds on
the success
of technology demonstration programs co-funded by government and industry over
the last few years.
National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Technology (NOW GmbH), Daimler AG, the National Hydrogen Association (NHA) and the
Partnership for Advancing the Transition to Hydrogen (PATH) have organized a
webinar to explore the details of this historic agreement.

Featured Speaker Dr. Klaus Bonhoff
|
Dr.-Ing. Klaus Bonhoff, born in 1968, studied Mechanical Engineering at the RWTH Aachen, Germany and ENSTA, Paris, France. He finalized his PhD in energy process engineering at the Research Center Jülich, Germany in 1998. He then started his professional career as assistant to the Board of Directors at the Research Center Jülich in the field of energy and materials research and became then head of Fuel Cell Project at Research Center Jülich. In 2001 he joined Ballard Power Systems GmbH as Manager for business development Europe.
In 2003 he started working for DaimlerChrysler AG where he held various positions within DaimlerChrysler’s fuel cell activities including responsibilities for strategy, communications, global demonstration projects, political programs and market development. In 2007 he received a contract with the German National Government to coordinate the German National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies (NIP).
Since February 2008 he is managing director (chair) of NOW GmbH National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, which was established to run the NIP as a strategic alliance at the interface of politics, industry and science. Since June 2009 NOW is also in charge of coordinating and managing the funding program “model regions electric-mobility” of the Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development.

Featured Speaker Ronald Grasman
|
Having joined Mercedes-Benz in 1996, Ronald Grasman is today in charge
of Daimler's F-Cell fleet demonstration, the company's worldwide activities
to operate Fuel Cell vehicles with real customers under real-life
conditions. He is also responsible for the market introduction of Daimler's
next generation Fuel Cell vehicle, the B-Class F-CELL, to be launched in
2010.
Before his position within the Strategic Energy Projects & Fuel
Cell Market Development division Ronald held various positions in the
Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler development and aftersales
organizations.
Born in 1969, he graduated from the Technical University
of Karlsruhe, Germany in Electrical Engineering an later complemented his
skills with MBA studies at the European School of Business at Reutlingen
University.

Moderator Jerry Hinkle
|
During 2003 to early 2006, Mr. Hinkle was a senior advisor to U. S.
Senator Byron Dorgan as a Brookings Fellow from the Department of
Energy. He focused on energy and environmental policy, especially with
regard to the various energy bills in the Congress from 2003-2005. He
was responsible for helping form and manage the Senate's Hydrogen and
Fuel Cell Caucus, and supporting Senator Dorgan in drafting and
negotiating much of the hydrogen legislation in the Energy Policy Act of
2005. Besides hydrogen, he worked extensively on other titles of the
Act, including Energy Efficiency, Coal, Indian Energy, and Vehicles and
Fuels.
Since 2006, he has made many presentations on these topics to
industry groups and the Congress in addition to writing several reports
on hydrogen systems, while continuing to write and negotiate legislation
on advanced technologies and market development. His legislative work as Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs for the NHA includes alternative energy, market transition, tax incentives
and greenhouse gas legislation in both the Senate and the House.
He served for 28 years at EPA and DoE in various capacities,
including prototype engines and alternative fuels, environmental policy,
international energy security, oilfield CO2 management, and most
recently as the senior economist for the U.S. Naval Petroleum Reserves. He has degrees in mathematics and physics from Miami University
and public policy from the University of Michigan, with extensive
graduate work in international politics and engineering economics from
Stanford, Michigan and the Colorado School of Mines.
